Nimmy Joshi began teaching as a way to diversify her work with pottery and art in Goa. However, over the last nine years, it has become one of the greatest joys of her life as she discovered her passion for working with children. Her workshops are deeply rooted in nature studies, combining art with observational exercises to instill curiosity and a deep appreciation for the world around us.
Passion Project
Primary Focus Area
Creative Arts For Nature Education, Nature Education , Eco-Literacy
Special Expertise
Sculptural and tableware ceramics; murals and installations; creating animal/bird/insect forms based on Goan biodiversity; designing art-based activities for mixed-age groups; using clay, drawing and craft to spark curiosity about local nature among children from migrant communities
Nature Stories & Everyday Biodiversity uses slow nature walks, sensory games, creative arts and micro-observations to help children notice insects, plants, textures, colours and patterns around them. Through guided reflection circles, journal-making, story prompts and child-led exploration, the project deepens emotional connection and everyday ecological awareness. Nimmy works across community spaces, homes and local outdoor environments, enabling families and children to rediscover nature in their immediate surroundings.
Communities engaged
Children from migrant communities around Moira/Pilerne; local community-learning group using an after-school space; adult learners and pottery students at Mudskipper Studio
Pedagogical Style
Art- and craft-led, highly tactile and sensory; place-based and slow, building curiosity first; flexible and responsive to mixed-age needs; comfortable with trial-and-error and learning from “mistakes”; uses wonder, stories and making to gently draw children’s attention to local biodiversity.
